A favorite of George Washington's, he once did 13 toasts with it in Fraunces Tavern in New York City, Hot Buttered Rum was a colonial period favorite during the cooler months of the year and especially popular around the holidays.

4 Cups Brown Sugar

1 Cup Butter

2 pinches salt

4 quarts hot water

2 teaspoons Cinnamon

2 teaspoons ground Cloves

4 Cups Dark or Spiced Rum (We prefer spiced)

2 Cup Sweetened Whip Cream

Nutmeg To Taste

Cinnamon Sticks (optional)

Whipped Cream/Cool Whip (optional)

Combine all ingredients except rum, place over low heat and stir until butter has melted and ingredients are well mixed. Add rum, stir and keep warm. To serve top with cool whip/whipped cream and cinnamon stick for stirring.
