The Old '76 House (also just called '76 House) is a true American Classic. Built in 1686 when the Dutch founded Tappan, it's been a public house ever since.

During the revolutionary war--because of Tappan's proximity to the lines of battle--the tavern became an important center for activity. Every one of the American generals passed through the '76 House, especially George Washington to drank ale at the bar railing and conducted some of the most important activities of the war.

The building and tavern were lovingly restored and the interior is period and a true representation of watering holes from the 17th century. This place is not to be missed on your historic pub crawl!
